Collection Development: Collection Development

Collection Development

Collection development is library jargon for ensuring the information needed by the NAIT community is available in the Library collections. The Library buys or acquires access to books, periodicals, AV materials, and electronic resources. Input from NAIT staff is an essential part of the process for everything from recommending books for purchase, to previewing AV materials, to requesting that items be placed in Course Reserves for students to use following classroom instruction.

In order to ensure that resources in the library collection are relevant, current, accessible and best support program needs, input is required from academic departments and administrative units. The library obtains this input via a library liaison system. For each program and unit at NAIT there is an assigned library staff member who is responsible for working with the area to recommend and select resources for inclusion in the collection.
